A very nice decision. I see no reason for other to criticise that. But everybody wants to open his mouth again.
It is a hard thing for others to distance their selves from others and say: No its not my business. Sure they can have their opinion, but they can use it for their own.

They spent more than half a century together, and then they depart this world together.

I doubt I'll ever know what it's like to be married for 54 years, but there's something very lovely about this story.

How is it pathetic? I think it's quite lovely indeed. I don't understand all of the criticism they received, they were both pretty much on their death beds. I could understand if perhaps the circumstances were different, if one of them were healthy and had chose to die, but it seems like it was just their time.

Even assisted suicide for those on their death beds? I think that's a bit different than typical suicide.

Well, their health was failing and after many years together they decided to quit while they were ahead.

Many old couples in the UK get involuntarily separated when their health fails, and they then fade away without dignity in shitty nursing homes.  That clearly wasn't for them. They decided to go out together with their dignity intact, and I can't see anything 'pathetic' about that.

In fact, I actually envy them to a degree.
